Egon's in for Some Trouble

Here's Egon's new little brother, Gozer the rat terrier! The three of us brought Gozer home from an adoption event on Sunday. Egon stood up and gave him a kiss through the bars of his crib. It was adorable until Egon walked to the other side of the crib, snatched Gozer's bully stick, and started to stroll off like nothing had just happened. Oh, puppy.

Both of the little guys seem so excited to be together. It's very sweet. Poor Gozer is only three months old, but he's been through some rough times. He was a little skeleton when the rescue got him, and he's been working to get back to regular puppy size. I don't think I've ever seen an animal so happy to eat. But everything the little guy does seems so joyful. I really hope we can give him the wonderful life he deserves.

Yes, We're Those People

We used the CanvasPop credit from PopSugar Must Have to order a canvas of this image of our favorite little guy! This is one of the images from Egon's holiday photo shoot by Justin Davanzo, who did such an amazing job! Not only are the images beautiful, but they make it look like Egon wasn't darting around the room like a little crazy man.  If you're looking for a photographer (not just for pets) in the LA area, check him out.

Barkbox: January

Here's what we got:

Egon loves all of these! When we first gave him the Barkworthies curly bully stick, he sat and chewed it for over two hours straight. He's run around with the Weenut and Elton the Octopus for a couple days now, and so far both have stood up to serious chewing and fetching. Two days doesn't sound like much, but he's destroyed other toys in less than five minutes, so I'll take this as a good sign. Egon's really enjoying the Yumzies, which are training treat size, but they're a little too chewy (read:time-consuming) to use for actual training sessions, so we'll use these as small standalone rewards or for "find" games. They're perfectly sized for stuffing in the Weenut, so there you go.

BarkBox starts at $17/month, and contents vary based on dog size.

Update: This was Elton after a week and a half:

At least now we know.

I Know What to get Egon for His Birthday!

Somehow I don't think Jonathan will be thrilled about the implications of my current favoritest YouTube video. But how awesome, right? Right. It is decided. There's nothing I can do about it now.

On Monday, I'll be back from my sinus-infection-themed holiday. Watch out, everyone! Watch out and beware.

Also, there's scripted drama on YouTube now? What? Here is a link.

BarkBox: December

1. Holiday Feast Treats by Bocce's Bakery.
2. Oatmeal Shampoo by Fresh Dog.
3. Holiday Moose toy by Simply Fido.
4. Red Velvet Cake Mix by Puppy Cake.

BarkBox starts at $17/month. By some gift from the Groupon gods, we're currently getting it for $10.
This was a simple, straight-forward box. Egon loves the toy and the treats. We haven't had a chance to try out the shampoo or the cake mix. Puppy party, anyone? I thought the contents of the box were very nice this month. I love BarkBox because it saves me money and trips to the pet store, while allowing Egon to try a vast array of treats and toys that we would never have the time or energy to seek out on our own. (And even if we had the time or energy, would we want to order unfamiliar food or toys that he may or may not like? I will answer that rhetorical question for you. No.) This month fit the bill. Happy.

It's Beagle Time!

You know what I think would make today a better day? An adorable puppy video. In which Egon discovers an identical beagle is mocking him:

BarkBox: November

BarkBox is a monthly subscription box for dogs, containing treats, toys, and grooming items. It starts at $17/ month.

This month's box was just awesome. Egon loved all of it. He can't put the moose antler down. We're going to have to order a new one as soon as he finishes it. The smoothie kept him occupied for a good half-hour. He's been gnawing on the Bionic and it's not showing a scratch, which is a big surprise and relief, considering the state of most toys that have come through the house. We discovered that we can stuff chunks of DogsBar into it, and we don't have to freeze it. It keeps him as busy as frozen peanut butter would, which should be an expression that everyone uses. A win all around. We're so glad we found out about BarkBox.

October BarkBox Reveal

I was not going to make it a thing, but after months and months of resistance, I'm kind of obsessed with subscription boxes now. In addition to the awesome having-to-go-grocery-shopping-ever eliminator Out of the Box Collective (which you're probably sick of hearing about), I've started subscribing to BarkBox, Love With Food, and MistoBox. Last week, I went off the deep end and added PopSugar Must Have, Celebrate Crate, and Hammock Pack to the mix, which coincided with my finally getting off the waiting list for Stitch Fix. Hooray! More on this stuff later, but let me assure you that I will not allow any of this to become clutter. It's more a function of my hating to shop.

Anyway, this is the stuff that BarkBox sent Egon this month:

In the picture at the very top, you can see the cute wool snake toy from Lollycadoodle. Egon loved it. Unfortunately, he also shredded it into a cotton-candy-like consistency within an hour. I think this may be a beagle issue. The beagle I had as a kid also had an uncanny knack for ripping open sturdy toys. I'm sad because it was an adorable toy.

We also got Clean Teeth Gel from Tropiclean, some really cute Poopy Packs from Metro Paws, a full-size bag of Turkey Trail Blazin' Bitz from Feelgood Treat Company, a prescription discount card from Honest Discounts, and an AMAZING doggie toy from Moody Pet that's a mustache on one side and a ball on the other, which is supposed to result in dogs running around wearing giant rubber mustaches, which is a laudable goal, to be sure.

As far as I can tell, the MSRP of the items in this box total $32.57.  One month of the box goes for $29, which drops to $17.50 a month when you sign up for six months. Not bad at all!

The Problem With Beagles...

...is they have very little regard for what they're supposed to be doing. This pop-up crate was supposed to be a shady place for Egon to hang out and stay out of trouble when we have to open the gate to the yard, say, to get the mail or take out the trash. This morning, I put him in the crate at the far end of the yard so I could drag out the recycling, and he followed me right out the front gate! At the very least, he seems to enjoy himself in his new toy.

Aww! Way too cute. He must be stopped!

Over-the-Collar Doggie Bow Tie!

Look how handsome! Alison and I each picked up a few sacks of awesome remnants for super cheap from Sew LA's booth at Renegade Craft Fair last weekend. I don't know about you, but I love random assortments of pretty things. I started rifling and sorting as soon as Jonathan and I got into the car. Isn't it cool how a particular color or texture can give you a bajillion ideas?

First up, and super early to boot, I made Egon a Halloween bow tie! It slides onto his regular collar for extra security, and so he can be fancy and carry identification at the same time. What if he were to get carded at the door of some puppy soiree?

I'll tell you how to make one for your dapper pet after the jump. It's very easy.

Sick as This Guy

Poor Dr. Egon has been to the vet(s) six times in the last three weeks! Luckily, all of his ailments were caught before they were out of control, and (poop exam willing) he'll be healthy, off meds for the foreseeable future, and finally well enough to get his 10-12 week vaccinations in a week and a half, when he turns 15 weeks old.

Until he's current, no puppy classes for him! We're doing okay with training at home--he knows "look," "sit," and "stay," and he's getting there with "down" and "here"--but we really want to give him a chance to play with other dogs. It's sad when he sees another dog coming down the street, and he gets so excited that his entire back half wags, but we have to pick him up and keep them apart. Soon, little guy!

Long time!

Hello! Happy 4th! I know I said I was going to be gone for a while, but man! That was longer than I expected! Jonathan and I have been super, super busy since my nephew Ben and my mom and dad went home. It's kind of Ben's fault, too. That criminal mastermind broke down our very last defenses against the inevitable:

This is baby Egon. Yes, it is short for Dr. Egon Spengler, which is the name on all of his paperwork. He's adorable and adorable. He's 12 weeks old. We've now had him for two weeks. He's already a full family member. Alison kindly came over to watch him for our anniversary yesterday. We were only gone for a few hours, but we already missed the little guy! Hopefully now that he's beginning to get settled in, I'll be back to posting more frequently.

I hope everyone's having fun today!
